A Charleston area resort has rebuilt about two miles of its beach and is set to restore its 18th hole that was partially swallowed up by the Atlantic Ocean last year. Wild Dunes Resort worked with city leaders to replenish about 9,000 feet of eroded beach. The project cost more than $9 million, according to the resort.

Shirley, an amateur and recent Auburn graduate who also won in 2006, had two steady rounds in the 36-hole tournament at Newnan's Canongate At SummerGrove Golf Club to finish with a 143.

Augusta amateur Laura Coble shot a 3-under-par 69 Monday to lead the first round of the Yamaha Georgia Women's Open by two shots. Alone at 71 at the Canongate at SummerGrove Golf Club in Newnan is former University of Georgia golfer Jackie Syzmoniak, who now lives in Newnan.
