Renita Crawford

An Augusta native, Renita Crawford is one of the most experienced journalists in the area. She's tried nearly every hat in the television business, editing, writing, producing, reporting and anchoring.

Renita joined the WJBF News Channel 6 team in 1993. A senior reporter in the newsroom, she brings in-depth coverage of stories affecting viewers.

Some highlights of her career at WJBF are covering the Susan Smith trial, live coverage of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, live reports on the Master's Golf Tournament, stories on Augusta's famous son, James Brown and the tragic death of Gone With the Wind actress, Augusta native Butterfly McQueen.

Renita's reporting has taken her outside the city and the state on several occasions. Most recently following city leaders to a "Homeland Security and Bio-Terrorism," conference in Washington D.C.

Renita values the experience being a hometown girl brings. From grammar school to college Renita knows her community well. She is a graduate of Augusta State University, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Communications. She frequently returns to her alma mater to speak to future communications graduates about a changing news industry.

She has a deep commitment to serving her community. Renita played an active role in organizing local women in attending the "Million Woman March", in Philadelphia, PA. She is also a featured speaker at many schools and organizations in Georgia and South Carolina, including many civic and corporate groups.

Renita actively supports Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's). She co-hosts the United Negro College Fund Telethon, helping to raise money for deserving students at HBCU's who cannot afford a quality education. Renita is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. She has also served as a board member of Girl's Incorporated, and is a former member of Augusta's Rape Crisis and Sexual Assault Services.

When she's not working she keeps busy with her number one priority, her family. Renita has two daughters, Brianna and Alexandria.
