WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The father of a teenager accused of fatally shooting a Florida high school football player says his son is innocent and charges have prompted threats against his family.

After his son’s first court appearance Saturday, Willie Felton, Sr. told the ‘Palm Beach Post’ that his son came home two hours before the slaying of Pahokee High School captain Norman “Pooh” Griffith.

Griffith was shot in the head as he drove away from a post-game dance in Belle Glade last weekend.

Authorities charged 16-year-old Willie Felton on Friday with first-degree murder and armed robbery. Also charged with first-degree murder is 17-year-old Carl Lee Booth Jr., even though investigators say he did not fire the fatal shot.
