COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Jasper Brinkley is slowly returning to the form that made him one of the Southeastern Conference’s top linebackers.

The South Carolina standout injured his knee against LSU last September and missed most of the Gamecocks’ rollercoaster season.

He watched from the sidelines as South Carolina rose to No. 6 in the country at 6-1, then could do nothing to stop the defense’s
slide down the stretch as the Gamecocks lost their final five games.

Brinkley wanted to leave last December when friend and defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix left the Gamecocks for Ole Miss.

But Brinkley stayed, and is now part of the nation’s top-ranked defense.

The Gamecocks take on the Rebels on Saturday.
