Columbia County Sex Offender Doesn’t Have to Move By Thanksgiving

A 29-year-old Columbia County woman who is the face of a lawsuit challenging Georgia’s crackdown on sex offenders will be allowed to stay in her home through Thanksgiving.

Senator Saxby Chambliss Rallies Support in Evans

It is the most talked about runoff this year.  Georgia Senator Saxby Chambliss and his opponent Jim Martin will soon hit the polls to see who will take the Georgia Senate seat which is up for grabs.  Saturday Senator Chambliss came through Evans in an effort to get more voters.  WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop had a chance to talk with him and has more.

According to Captain Steve Morris, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who tried to rob the Evans Wal-Mart by prying open the Sporting Goods Department cash register.

Critics try to halt eviction of Columbia County “sex offender”

Critics of Georgia’s crackdown on sex offenders are trying to block the eviction of a 29-year-old woman who is the face of a lawsuit challenging the tough new restrictions.  Lawyers for Wendy Whitaker filed a motion in Columbia County Superior Court today (Friday) urging a judge to block an eviction
scheduled for next week.  Whitaker is on the sex-offender registry for having consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old classmate when she was 17.

Columbia County Reacts to High School Punishment

A football team showing support for one of its own. Raccoon Tests Positive For Rabies In Columbia County

According to Columbia County EMA Director, Pam Tucker, a raccoon was picked up by Columbia County Animal Care and Control on Saturday, October 18th, after a Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputy reported that it was exhibiting signs of rabies. The raccoon was euthanized and sent off for testing by the Columbia County Health Department.
