Funeral For Cherry Tree Crossing Shooting Victim Held Monday
Hundreds turned out to remember Justin Elmore, Monday…an Augusta man shot and killed by police. The shooting led to several nights of unrest in the neighborhood it happened in. Monday morning, people packed into Macedonia Baptist Church. The controversial shooting attracted the attention of Reverend Al Sharpton, the president of the National Action Network. Authorities say Elmore had drugs and weapons in his vehicle when he attempted to run from police, December 7th, in the Cherry Tree Crossing housing development. The Sheriff says Elmore tried to run over the deputies and that’s when they fired. WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford has the story.

Ministers Meet With Local Leaders About Cherry Tree Crossing
A community is trying to pick up the pieces after a shooting turns deadly. 23-year-old Justin Elmore died Tuesday. He was shot by two investigators this weekend. The Sheriff says he tried to use his SUV as a weapon. Several residents were heated after learning about the shooting. Civil Rights Group Demands Answers After Cherry Tree Crossing Shooting
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference marched through the Cherry Tree Crossing community to protest the shooting of Justin Elmore. It says Richmond County deputies overreacted and the group is demanding answers. The Sheriff say Elmore was a drug dealer and had drugs and weapons in his vehicle. Elmore more died Tuesday from his injuries. There have been several nights of unrest among residents following the shooting and Elmore’s passing. Cherry Tree Crossing Shooting Victim Dies, Candlelight Vigil Held
We have an update on a controversial shooting at the Cherry Tree Crossing housing development, which happened on Sunday. It’s an update that includes the latest information on a Richmond County officer who was injured out there Tuesday night. That is the latest development in a night where tensions rose once again, and they rose because of this: Around 9:00 p.m., 23-year-old Justin Elmore died. Deputies say Elmore had drugs and weapons his SUV when they tried to pull him over, Sunday night. They shot Elmore when they say he used the vehicle to ram their cruiser. Those two officers are on administrative duty until the investigation is finished.

Late Tuesday, WJBF learned from the GBI that Justin Elmore, the man shot Sunday afternoon in Cherry Tree Crossing has died. The GBI has assigned four agents to investigate the controversial shooting at Cherry Tree Crossing. Agent Gary Nicholson says his agency will gather the facts and decide if any laws were broken. Tension Still High At Cherry Tree Crossing
Two Richmond County deputies are not patrolling the streets after being involved in a shooting at the Cherry Tree Crossing housing development Sunday night. Since then, officers have stepped up patrols trying to calm an angry crowd after a suspect was shot there. At a press conference today, Sheriff Strength says people were setting dumpsters on fire and throwing objects at law enforcement and other officials. Count on our Fraendy Clervaud. Shooting Incident Under Investigation; Neighbors Protest
A shooting Sunday afternoon near 15th Street in Augusta led to a large gathering of upset neighbors. There is little information about the shooting other than that one person was shot at the intersection of 15th and Carver. A briefing on the shooting is scheduled by Sheriff Ronnie Strength, Monday, at 11:00 a.m. In the meantime, there were large crowds that had gathered. One WJBF photojournalist reported hearing gunfire in the area. Officers left to let the scene diffuse, but they mobilized in the event of any more incidents in the area.
