Retail gasoline prices across Georgia jumped a penny overnight as OPEC production cutbacks sent oil prices rising.

Some are going by land, others by air, and some are staying put. Many say the economy is what’s keeping them close to home, and say the only thing they plan to spend this holiday…is time with family. Count on Joy Howe for the story.

Gasoline prices across Georgia have fallen below the $2 a gallon mark. AAA said prices at the pumps have tumbled more than a dollar in the past month.

Georgia motorists are paying less to fill up the gasoline tank.  The average statewide price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.09 Monday. AAA Georgia said that’s a drop of $1.39 cents over the past month.  The national average price for regular is $2.24 a gallon.

Gasoline prices continue to plummet across Georgia and the nation.  According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular is $2.66 Monday.  AAA reports the statewide average for regular is $2.52 a gallon Monday.

Game one of the World Series is Wednesday night in Saint Petersburg, Florida…the Tampa Bay Rays are in the “Fall Classic” for the first time in team history, and one CSRA native will be watching closer than most. Shorter lines are being reported at gas stations in the metro Atlanta area, but deliveries are being consumed by motorists anxious to find gas. Colonial Pipeline operates the main artery for gas coming in to terminals in the Atlanta area from the Gulf Coast. The flow was back to pre-hurricane levels on Monday.

Gasoline prices across Georgia are higher than the national average, according to AAA. The other problem is finding fuel for your vehicle. The auto club reports the average statewide price for regular unleaded is $3.94 a gallon Monday.  The national average is $3.64 for a gallon of regular.

According to AAA, motorists should see retail gasoline prices inching down this week, but there are still supply problems in areas of Georgia, Tennessee, and western sections of the Carolinas.

A week after Hurricane Ike hit Texas, many local gas stations are still struggling to keep fuel in their tanks. And, many drivers are getting frustrated as they drive from place to place, looking for gas. Driving around, for the most part, we’re all seeing the same two situations…either an empty gas station with no gas, or a very crowded one with a long-awaited fresh supply.
