North Augusta, SC—South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster addressed the current fuel crisis at the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce, Wednesday.
McMaster told Chamber members that his office got thousands of phone calls and e-mails from people who thought gas stations were price gouging, after Hurricane Ike.
McMaster’s office investigated those claims, and found that very few people were actually being gouged.
Henry McMaster, South Carolina Attorney General: “We’ve got a good law. The trick now is we’ve got not nearly enough people to investigate them, but it takes time.“
McMaster says what people think is price gouging is actually gas station owners passing along the extra costs to the consumer.
