HONEY HILL, S.C. (AP) - Berkeley County prosecutors have yet to decide whether to charge a woman who says she shot and killed her husband because he was attacking her disabled son.
Doris Montgomery told The Post and Courier of Charleston that her 50-year-old husband was drunk and beating up her 47-year-old son who had a paralyzed right arm from a 1983 motorcycle accident.
The 67-year-old woman said she yelled at Richard Shoaf, begging him to stop beating her son, Harry Worten. She said when Shoaf did not stop, she went in her home, got a pistol and shot him.
Montgomery called an ambulance, but her husband was dead.
