Columbia, S.C. - October 6, 2008 - According to a release, Governor Mark Sanford will hold a first-of-its-kind statewide budget summit Tuesday, October 7th, to get ideas directly from the state’s agency heads about impending budget cuts.
State economists will meet later in the week and will in all likelihood determine that as much as $250 million will need to be cut from the current year’s spending plan. Governor Sanford has asked for each agency head to come up with their lowest priority activities to help him and legislative leaders come up with recommended cuts. The budget summit will take place at 10:00 a.m. in room 252 of the Brown Building at the Statehouse Complex in downtown Columbia.
Gov. Sanford also announced the following public event for Tuesday:
“Tomorrow afternoon, Gov. Sanford will travel to Berkeley County to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of Google’s $600 million data center there, which will employ 200 people. The event will take place at 4:00 p.m. at the Mt. Holly Commerce Park (1669 Garrott Avenue).”
