COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom wants the Budget and Control Board to hold a special meeting to reduce state spending again.
The Board of Economic Advisors trimmed the revenue estimate earlier this month by about $135 million, or about 2 percent of the current budget.
Eckstrom wants the Budget and Control Board to cut spending now, since the General Assembly won’t return until January.
The board cut spending by 3 percent in July because of falling revenue. The General Assembly last month cut about 7 percent from the budget they approved in June.
The State newspaper reported the board is scheduled to meet Dec. 11, but Eckstrom wants them to meet no later than early next week.
