Darlington, SC—Thousands of Georgians and South Carolinians have already cast their ballots either in advance, or by absentee. That includes Ada Nettles of Darlington, South Carolina.
Ms. Nettles has been voting since the Voting Rights Act of 1956 first allowed her to do so.
The 107-year-old cast her ballot in this election, Friday afternoon.
She says this is her most memorable vote because it’s the first time she was able to vote for an African-American.
Ada Nettles, 107-year-old voter: “I just like him. Like how he talks, and looks like he’s nice and quiet.“
For almost half of her life, African-American women were unable to vote.
