Former Aiken County Councilman’s Sex Charges Dismissed

Three years ago, former Aiken County Councilman Russ Ferrara turned himself into authorities, after being accused of fondling a 13-year-old girl. Then a year later, Ferrara had a second accusation leveled against him…this time, a 23-year-old woman accused him of sexual assault. Thursday, we learned prosecutors have dropped all the charges. Joy Howe explains why.

  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has delayed a decision on whether to reduce the flow of water from lakes on the South Carolina-Georgia border.  Corps spokesman Billy Birdwell told The Greenville News the decision was delayed because the Corps hasn’t gotten an official response from the federal Marine Fisheries Service.  South Carolina and Georgia have asked for a reduction in water flow through the Thurmond Lake dam to conserve water in the upper lakes.

  • South Carolina’s jobless rate hit 8 percent in October - the highest in 25 years.  The state Employment Security Commission said Friday that 16,000 people joined the ranks of the unemployed in October. That’s a big increase from the September jobless rate of 7.3 percent. The head of the Employment Commission says the state added 4100 jobs, but the number of people filing for unemployment exceeded that.
