STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) - Snow Mountain finally will get its
premiere at Stone Mountain Park.
The controversial attraction was canceled last year when critics
balked at the event in the midst of a crushing drought in the
state.
The attraction spans three football fields and includes a
400-foot tubing hill. Officials announced Tuesday it is scheduled
to debut on Dec. 31 and run on weekends through March 1. It was
scheduled to open last fall just as state officials banned
virtually all outdoor watering to cope with the historic drought.
The park refunded more than 7,000 tickets sold in the run-up to the
opening.
This year, organizers are touting environmental sensitivity and
say they are using borrowed water from Stone Mountain Lake that
does not tap into city water.
