NEW YORK (AP) - Lexus once again stands alone atop the closely watched J.D. Power and Associates ranking of vehicle dependability.
Dave Sargent, J.D. Power's vice president of automotive research, says part of the reason is that the ES and the RX models, which together account for over two-thirds of Lexus sales, "both improved significantly."
Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales USA, the company that makes the Lexus, says the results are important because they reflect what he calls "real-world, long-term vehicle quality and dependability."
Although Buick shared the Number-1 spot with Lexus last year, the GM product has slipped to sixth place.
A Buick spokeswoman (Debbie Frakes) says "Obviously we're disappointed not to have been at the top." But she says Buick stil ranks high in "many, many quality studies."
Ford's Mercury brand ranked second, followed by GM's Cadillac. Toyota was fourth, and Honda's Acura luxury brand was fifth.
