McDuffie County, GA—WJBF-TV News Channel 6 has learned that a student at Thomson High School was detained around 2 pm, Thursday, after school officials found a gun in his possession.
According to McDuffie County School Superintendent Mark Petersen, the juvenile was taken by Board of Education Police to the Youth Detention Center, in Augusta. Petersen would not say what caliber the hand gun was, but did say that the gun was not loaded.
We checked with the Thomson Police Department, and they say they were not called to the school, Thursday, and have had no report filed with them. Petersen said that the school system would be filing charges against the student.
A hearing in the case has been scheduled for Monday morning. We will continue to follow this story, and provide more information as it becomes available.
