    Despite tough times for some of Richmond County's four-legged friends, the humane society, a rescue group and other pet friendly groups pushed the need to take home an abandoned dog and treat them well. Peppered in the crowd of baseball fans were a few tails waggin' and tongues licking. The Augusta GreenJackets stadium was the place to be for fun with your pet Friday night. A few groups also used the crowd to get a very important message out; adopt or rescue.

The incident happened at the intersection of Damascus Road and Highland Avenue.According to dispatch officers, an 18-wheeler truck driver hit the traffic light pole and knocked the traffic light down on the street after making a wrong turn. Officials say there no injuries. No word yet on when or if the trucker driver will be charged.

This year a little less than 700 more students enrolled in Columbia County schools with the 2014-2015 ten day count totaling a record number of 25, 338 students.     Residents from Richmond County's District 6 are speaking out following the millage rate vote that changed along with the sitting commissioner. Just a week ago the millage rate had a different outcome. It was the change in that District 6 seat that split the vote, giving the Mayor the power that ultimately raised property taxes. Some residents told News Channel 6 that newly appointed and recently elected Ben Hasan did his own thing.

On one of the hottest days of the year, football players and fans found themselves beating the heat. Angela Maddox was at Evans High School cheering on her grandchildren, but brought water and Gatorade just in case. “I was kind of worried about the team and the band members falling out really because it is too hot,” she said. Darryl Mims was also at the stadium to support his son wearing #1.

    Authorities say rescue crews were able to reach a woman trapped on a rock in the Chattahoochee River and bring her to safety. Atlanta Fire Rescue spokeswoman Janet Ward said the woman was stranded in the river Monday in the Peachtree creek area. Ward tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the woman was pulled from the water a short time after police and firefighters were dispatched to the river.

Community Health Systems operates more than 200 hospitals across the United States. Trinity Hospital of Augusta is one of those health centers. Health officials said a group from China recently obtained the names, addresses and even social security numbers of 4.5 million people who visited one of the hospitals.
