PART 2: Racism in Augusta Politics

Part 2 of 4 How do we get this geographical difference in one city? “I think what we’ve seen a lot of over the years is white flight from difference areas. You’ve seen it happen in Downtown Augusta, everyone migrated to Columbia County. Then a lot of folk in the South Augusta community went to different areas and it left somewhat of a void. If you look at the communities now, it’s very clear that there is a grave difference in all of these areas.

Have you seen blatant racism? “Everything that has been brought before the commission [such as] the parking deck that’s built on land that the city doesn’t own. Nothing is being done about that. Somebody knew about that. It is all about the power brokers in this city making money. It is not black and white, it is green,” said Lori Davis, Harrisburg Neighborhood Association Activist. Why is it that you ran on one Augusta and yet years later, Hardie Davis had to run on one Augusta? Why?
